About a month or so into my training, I was in town on the way to the taxi stand after a night out, when a guy started to verbally abuse me from behind as he had mistaken me for someone else, as he was calling me another name!! I turned around as Jayson taught me to square to your opponent, as he continued to verbally abuse me I asked what his problem was & to go way! He next threw a swing at me where I responded with a last resort cover then dropped him with a straight punch! When I awoke the next day I realized that if i hadn't learned a last resort cover from Jayson then things could have been a hell of a lot different! The thing I've learned most is that you’re never going to know when a situation is going to arise but the amazing skills & confidence you learn from Arakan can adapt to any situation you may encounter in your life even if you have just started out!! Now I've been doing it for a year I have learned many more skills to help deal with those situations & it will only grow as I continue on my Arakan journey!!

A very good friend of mine held a party for his 17 year old son and my wife and I offered to help out with the general party stuff. All was well up until 9:45. A group of uninvited teenagers (party crashers) approached the front gate and despite of being told several times that the party was closed and that they would not be let in, the group got louder and started to climb on neighboring fences.
I started to get surrounded by 5 or 6 of them holding open cans and bottles yelling abuse, my adrenalin started rising and I started to pick out my targets ( just in case). Then it happened, a push…it was immediately answer by a back fist (guy in front of me), slight turn to the left and followed by a straight palm (guy to my left), it connected quite well and caused a bit of a domino effect. The rest of the group cleared out quickly and started to throw cans and bottles at us., luckily no one was hurt. Eventually the police arrived and scanned the area for those who started this mess.

I had always considered myself a fairly fit and active person, however, if I compare myself prior to beginning training to my present self the difference that Arakan has made to my health and fitness is enormous! Through Arakan I have not only gained a huge increase in my strength and fitness and the ever-developing ability to defend myself in threatening situations but the privilege of being taught by some truly amazing people.

Training Arakan challenges me in the most enjoyable way. I always feel that, with the encouragement of my Arakan Instructor, I am pushing the boundaries of my fitness levels every time I train which makes me feel strong and alive. Through regular fitness tests I am able to set goals and gauge my progress which is important to me.
The best part about improving my fitness levels is that I am also learning an inspiring Martial Art at the same time, giving me practical techniques to defend myself should the need ever arise. What a great combination! I feel fit and healthy and strong and that gives me confidence and an amazing sense of well being every day.

Health and fitness have always been major aspects in my life. Learning Arakan has given me the ability to maintain a high level of fitness without focusing on it. The movements and techniques involved in Arakan work the whole body instead of isolating specific muscles.
Personally, I find through training Arakan my strength and fitness has never plateaued but is always climbing and improving.

Oliver has become more confident, positive, independent and self-assured since he started training in Arakan in February 09.
He has made great friends and really looks forward to training each week in both his private lesson and groups training.

Arakan has helped develop Zak into the child that he is today both physically and mentally.
When asked what he learnt after completing his Level 1 grading with 2nd Degree Senior Instructor Richard Burkett, he replied that he 'now knows what to do if a bully comes up to him'. In more ways than one Zak has absorbed all the strength and attitude that Arakan teaches which has helped him to become a more confident, focused individual.
