Martial arts’ is traditionally seen as something we enrol our children into whilst at school or we participated when we were younger. We all see the benefits of learning a martial art; improved fitness and health, balance, coordination, focus, discipline and agility, as well as learning self defence skills. However, more adults are beginning to see the benefits of training a martial art and beginning their journey as a mature aged student.

There is no age barrier to training Arakan Martial Art®. We have students as young as 3 years of age and as old as 83 learning Arakan Martial Art®.

Mature students reap enormous benefits from training Arakan Martial Art®. Cognitive function improves as right and left brain hemispheres are used. Coordination increases and health and fitness improve. Strength, flexibility and fitness components are incorporated into Arakan training, to ensure you are performing in peak condition whilst learning to defend yourself in any situation.

If you have never done any form of fitness before or your overall fitness level is quite low, that’s fine. Your Arakan training will begin from where you are at and slowly build you from your level. Whilst your range of function, core fitness, strength and mobility may at first be limited, it will quickly increase and you will see improvements in your strength, power, speed, agility, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility and this translates into your daily lifestyle with how you perform everyday tasks.

If you are a seasoned martial artist, or quite athletic, you will also benefit from training Arakan Martial Art®. Regardless of where you are at in your fitness and health journey, through training Arakan Martial Art® you will learn to have greater control over your body, become physically fitter, stronger, more agile, flexible and more adaptable. This also translates into your ability to protecting yourself and loved ones too. By having a greater control over your own body, you will be better able to take control over your opponent.

Arakan Martial Art® uses a systematic approach to learning. It follows the neuroplasticity principles which include focused attention, determination, hard work and maintaining overall health and wellbeing. Neuroplasticity (also known as brain plasticity or brain malleability) is the brains ability to reorganise itself. New research shows this phenomenon continues throughout our adult life. This means you can teach ‘an old dog new tricks’. Great for those of us that are a little older and wanting to maintain a fit, healthy and active lifestyle.

Arakan Martial Art® is unique in its ability to flow, continuous movements from one to the other, becoming incredibly adaptable, yet completely unpredictable when protecting ourselves on the street. During training we get into a learning state, ‘switched on’, ready to learn. We give our undivided attention to the moment and have intense focus on what we are about to learn. Each lesson is structured to be experiential or ‘hands-on’ so that you get to practice the new skill set and technique. We practice the new skill set to recreate the new neural pathway. Each time we practice the new skill set or technique, we are reorganising a positive pattern in our brain, discarding what no longer serves. This is how new neural pathways are created, reorganising the brain positively.

Whether you are reorganising your brain positively or negatively, the effort is the same. So it is best to focus your intention and energy into reorganising your brain in positive ways, rather than reinforcing negative patterns. Training Arakan Martial Art® helps your body and mind to become more adaptable, flexible and agile.

Arakan Martial Art® is incredibly adaptable and suitable for all shapes, sizes, ages, physicality and any health or other perceived limitations. We understand that no two bodies are the same. Everyone has something they are working on or towards. We appreciate these differences at Arakan and will start at your level and structure your journey from there. Some of our students have been in wheelchairs, had missing or prosthetic limbs, broken bones, injuries; all perfectly capable of training Arakan Martial Art®. It is even more important to be able to protect yourself with these perceived limitations. We believe everyone has the right to feel safe and our mission is to impart skill sets and techniques to ensure the safety and well being of yourself and others.

Arakan Martial Art® teaches you to adapt too many situations and environments, becoming dynamic, adaptable and capable of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of yourself and others. It strengthens muscles, increases balance and agility, therefore enhances your ability to perform everyday tasks safely and efficiently, reducing the risk of an injury and enriches your quality of life.

Arakan Martial Art® specialises in private lessons and this is the fastest way to achieve your desired fitness and health goals as these lessons are specifically tailored to suit your individual needs.
By training privately, consistently and frequently, you will enhance your techniques, skills sets and awareness which will provide you with greater safety and security. You may choose this option for a number of reasons; for example you may be time poor, lead a busy lifestyle, work commitments, are a shift worker or have other concerns such as health, fitness, or require personal attention, then private lessons would be more suitable. You are also not placed in a large group class with students at all ages and all levels.

Our goal is to equip you with the techniques, discipline and skills to remain calm in heightened situations and to diffuse many situations. Should a potential situation escalate, you will also learn techniques to control any situation quickly and effectively, to ensure the safety of all concerned.
Strength, flexibility and fitness components are incorporated into Arakan training, to ensure you are performing in peak condition whilst learning to defend yourself in any situation. We train this way to enhance our ability to train Arakan Martial Art® and this transforms into performing everyday tasks safely and efficiently.
